Center for Information Systems

Welcome to the Center for Information Systems at Kent State University

The Center for Information Systems, in the Department of Management & Information Systems of the College of Business Administration at Kent State, promotes cooperation and interchange with regional Information Systems Executives, Kent State Information Systems Faculty, and Kent State Undergraduate and Graduate Information Systems Students.

The CIS corporate members and Kent State members of CIS (faculty, students, and administrators) are dedicated to improving the development, application, and management of information systems through quality undergraduate, masters, and doctoral instruction, internationally recognized research, and service to area businesses and other profit and non-profit organizations.

The Center was established by Dr. Robert D. Smith in 1986 and has a strong focus on curriculum development, especially at the undergraduate level. The 25 year anniversary was celebrated in October 2011.  Photos from the 25th Anniversary Celebration

Funding and Sponsorship
CIS is funded through donations from Kent State alumni and faculty. Member companies and local businesses voluntarily provide scholarships and other monetary awards to recognize various contributions of current KSU students.

As an employer/business partner you play a very important role in helping our students:
  • Discover career options in computer information systems, computer science and digital sciences
  • Find out about the many different job options and functions in information technology and the industries they serve.
  • Get detailed career information on specific areas of IT from industry professionals
  • Prepare polished résumés
  • Learn about internships/job opportunities
This year, as in the past, we will send student participants on a journey of IT functions, using a passport to guide them as they collect information at each "destination" table from industry professionals who work in the functional area.  Each table will, ideally, have representatives with the same/similar functional role from different organizations and companies.
